God is Crazy about You! July 24, 2023

“He who counts the stars and calls them by their names, is in no danger of forgetting His own children, He knows your case as thoroughly as if you were the only creature He ever made, or the only saint He ever loved!” - Charles H. Spurgeon

Imagine that you’re looking at a brilliant night sky and you decide that you’re going to give names to some of your favorite stars. It’s a fun activity for a while, but before long you run out of names because there are so many stars, and you know there are billions more than you can even see from where you are.

Imagine that God, who created those stars, knows them by name and helps them to shine even more brilliantly. That is the God who knows your name. That is the One who created you and loves you beyond measure. You are His star in so many ways and He can’t get enough of being near you. He never forgets about you and never leaves you alone.

Today, remind yourself that God has called you by name and that He sees you right where you are. He lovingly thinks of you and applauds your efforts to become even more cherished. He will always see you as unique and incredibly brilliant. Give Him thanks and praise!

“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” - Psalm 147:4 NIV

Let us pray: Lord, thank You for making us the person we are and for seeing me as brilliant and strong. Help us to live up to the name You have given us. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Paying Attention to Your Business July 17th, 2023

“We should have much more peace if we would not busy ourselves with the sayings and doings of others.” - Thomas a Kempis

Every now and then you get distracted. You aren’t distracted by your work load or your household chores this time, but you’re distracted by a bit of local gossip, some hearsay about a family member or an old friend. You don’t want to get caught up in it, but before you know it, you become part of the drama, part of the fuel that keeps gossip’s fires burning.

Though it’s never pleasant to be admonished to “mind your own business,” that fact is that it is good advice. If we keep focused on our own business, which usually has some necessary repairs needed anyway, we can change things for the better. When we focus on other people’s business, there is little good that can be accomplished.

Today, stay totally focused on you and the business at hand. You’ll be glad you did. After all, participating in gossip is never really a wise course of action.

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put preserve lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you.” - Proverbs 4:23-25 NKJV

Let us pray: Lord, thank You for making us Your business. Thank You for reminding me where to put our focus and our priorities. We’ve got plenty to handle all on our own. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

More Tape, Please! June 19th, 2023

“When God measures the greatness of an individual, He puts the tape measure around the heart not the head.” - Anonymous

Imagine that God wants to measure all that you are by putting a tape measure around your heart. How much tape would He need? Chances are that you would feel it all depends on the day. After all, some days you feel warm and generous and loving to everyone. Other days, you want to hide away from the world and protect yourself from life’s drama.

The wonderful thing is that the size of your heart doesn’t depend so much on how you feel on any given day. It depends on how much of God’s love you allow to go through you and out to the rest of the world. It depends on how much love you’re willing to share. The size of your heart is a matter of love and you have a lot of love to bless those around you. No doubt, the more you discover about yourself as you lean closer to God, the more you’ll realize that your heart is bigger than you even imagined. God may indeed need a bigger tape measure.

“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart.” - Matthew 12:35 NLT

Let us pray: “Lord, bless us with a desire to have a bigger heart for those around us, being willing to see any affliction and offer our help however You lead us to do. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Understanding Perfection June 12th, 2023

“God, who needs nothing, loves into existence wholly superfluous creatures in order that He may love and perfect them.” - C.S. Lewis

Isn’t it wonderful to know that God knows you’re not perfect? He knows you are still learning and growing and becoming the woman He meant for you to be. He knows your imperfections and He makes it His aim to love you into being more than you are today. When you strive to learn more of Him and what He would want for you, and when you observe His Spirit in others and respond to it, He is able to instruct you and give you opportunities to grow. You are His beloved and He is proud of you each time you take a step in His direction.

God knows that human beings are imperfect. He knows that we make a lot of mistakes and that we make a lot of foolish choices. He is not sitting by in some cosmic arena waiting to see how many bad decisions you’ll make, or how many times you might turn your back from Him. He’s cheering you on, extending grace and mercy to you in every possible way.

Bless the work God is doing in your life and offer applause and praise and shouts of joy for what you are doing together.

“As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him.” - Psalm 18:30 NIV

Let us pray: “Thank you, Lord, for keeping watch over us and guiding us to perfectly love You in our hearts, souls, and minds. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Knowing Yourself June 5th, 2023

“Human beings must be known to be loved; but divine beings must be loved to be known.” - Blaise Pascal

Becoming the real authentic you is about really knowing yourself. It means that you know where the boundaries are and what “pushes your buttons” when you feel a bit angry. You know what kind of music you like and what makes an evening feel like fun. You know your fears and your hopes and your dreams. You know your short-comings and the things you secretly hope no one will ever know about you.

As in other relationships, you can love and appreciate yourself more when you know yourself well. In the case of knowing and loving God, it’s a bit different. God seeks to help you know Him. He reveals Himself to you over time so that you can grasp more of His divine nature as you mature. You have worked to know more about Him because you already love Him.

God knows everything about you, even those secrets you might like to hide. He knows you and He loves you. Keep letting Him into you life, into every area of your being, and you will come to know Him as a true and loving friend.

“Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” - 1 John 4:7 NIV

Let us pray: “Lord, help us to invite You further into our lives so that we might know more of You and build our relationship with You. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

We Need Each Other May 29th, 2023

“We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly embracing each other.” - Luciano De Crescenzo

It’s a great day to be an independent thinker and a solitary contributor to society … sometimes. It’s great to be able to take care of ourselves and no one would argue against that, but even when we operate on our own the majority of the time, we still need other people. We need encouragement. We need support and love. We need to have great advisors and people who make us laugh at ourselves. We need the people who are different than we are, who bring us a new perspective and help us to stay more honest in our approach to life. Yes, we truly need each other.

When you think about it, God designed us for community. He created us so that we could be loved by Him and so we could love Him back. He also wanted us to do that for each other. Honor the people who are your angels today, who make it possible for you to fly, even when it feels like you’re flying solo.

Let God raise you up today.

“Put on your new nature, created to be like God - truly righteous and holy.” - Ephesians 4:24 NLT

Let us pray: Lord, thank You for the people in our lives who are truly our angels. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

The Decision to Love May 15, 2023

“Do not waste your time bothering about whether you love your neighbor; act as if you did… When you are behaving as if you love someone, you will presently come to love them.” - C.S. Lewis

It may not always feel to you that love is a choice. After all, some people want make it very difficult to find reasons to want to be anywhere near them. The fact is that there’s a difference between that genuine, heartfelt, emotional attachment you feel for the people in your intimate circle, and the kind of love that God expects you to share with your neighbor.

Genuine love comes from God. You can choose to offer God’s love to your neighbor, to your difficult boss, or to a complete stranger. After all, God gave it to you to give away. He wants you to share His truth and His light with others. So, sharing that kind of love is a decision you can make every day.

Sometimes even the people you genuinely love, offend you and you have to call on God’s love for them too. The understanding to have is that you always have love to give because you have God’s love to share.

“If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are nice only to your friends, you are not better than other people. Even those who don’t know God are nice to their friends.” - Matthews 5:46-47 NCV

Let us pray: Lord, help us to be willing to share Your love with everyone we meet today. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Growing and Becoming More May 8, 2023

“She is only advancing in life whose heart is getting softer, her blood warmer, her brain quicker, and her spirit entering into living peace.” - John Ruskin (adapted)

When you were a little girl, you probably dreamed about what you would be when you grew up. You may have tried to imagine what it would be like to be an actor, or a world traveler, or even a mom. You’ve been growing and becoming someone special every day since you were born.

You’re not only special to your family, you’re special to God. He looks forward to seeing you evolve into the person He already knows you can be. He applauds your efforts and encourages you to try again when you fail. He knows that you can stretch yourself further, bend a little more, reach a little higher, all without breaking, and all for a good reason, to get to be a little more like Him.

As you get older, you have opportunities for your heart to become tender and more authentic. You care for others and love them, growing sweeter and kinder in the process. God has entered each area of your life to bring His beautiful Spirit of peace. May you continue to grow in him always.

“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.” - 1 Corinthians 13:11 NLT

Let us pray: Lord, help us to grow to be more like You so that we warmly and lovingly reflect Your image to everyone around us. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Blossoms of Love May 1, 2023

“Love makes the music of the blest above, Heaven’s harmony is universal love.” - William Cowper

You’re a loving woman with a big heart and a ready embrace. You put others at ease in your presence and offer them encouragement and friendship. Your kindness knows no bounds. no? That’s not you?

All of us are actually still learning above love. We’re trying to understand how to love our spouses and our children. We’re trying to manage the relationships of various members of our families and praying for satisfying outcomes. We’re looking at ways to reach out to those around us in love as well.

We do it because we know how important it is for people to feel loved. God knew what the first time He looked at Adam’s lonely face. He knew that somehow human beings got more out of life if they were loved. Of course, He knew that because He designed us to be lovers. He wants us to be lovers of each other, of life itself and of the planet. He wants love to blossom every place we plant our feet. Love is yours to give and receive today.

“Let us love one another, for love comes from God.” - 1 John 4:7 NIV

Let us pray: Lord, thank You for all the blessings of love that have come into my life. Help us to never outgrow our need for love. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Take a Break - From Yourself April 24, 2023

“The most effective remedy for self-love and self-absorption is the habit of humble listening.” - E. Herman

We can’t help getting caught up in our own stories. After all, we play the starring role there and everything seems to be about us. The truth is that we can be overwhelmed with our own self-absorption and not even realize that we’ve neglected those around us. We probably don’t really hear anything others have don’t see their needs as being as important as ours. The danger is that we can get stuck in the place of “me, me, me” for a time and get comfortable there.

God loves you and in some ways it really is “all about you”. But some days you need to take a break from yourself and set your focus on those things that make a difference for others. You need to be able to listen from the heart to what God has to say to you into all the things that are good for you because He knows what you need all the time.

Take a day off from your own story, for your own good.

“People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.” - Proverbs 16:2 NLT

Let us pray: Lord, help us to get out of my own way, to not be so involved with my needs that I neglect others who need me. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

You Make Me Laugh! April 17, 2023

“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” - Victor Borge

You probably have friends that lift your spirits almost the moment you get in the same room with them. They make you laugh…in a good way. They remind you to lighten up a little and put down your load. They are good for you.

God knows we don’t laugh enough. We are so focused on our worries and our schedules and our workloads or our children or something else, that we can’t even imagine a moment of laughter. This may be an area where you actually have to practice developing and growing your laughing skills. That’s right. You may have to allow yourself a little more fun.

God created you with a multi-level and multi-dimensional character. That means He gave you a wide range of emotions. If you’ve missed out a bit too often on the pleasures derived from sharing some laughter with good friends, then rethink your day and see where you can fit that in. It will do you a world of good.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” - Proverbs 17:22 NLT

Let us pray: Lord, we confess that we forget to lighten up sometimes. Help us to enjoy moments of laughter and friendship with those around me. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Lighting More Candles April 10, 2023

“If you’re not lighting any candles, don’t complain about the dark” - Anonymous

Do you ever worry about what’s going on in the world? Do you wonder why there is so much chaos and trouble, or why are many teenagers seem to have no direction, or why so many people are simply walking in the dark?

Can you make a list of things you’ve done in the last three days to turn up the light a little? Can you find the places where you’ve intentionally helped others overcome the darkness?

The job we have as Christians women is always to be willing to bring the light, going everywhere with a candle ready to shine. If it helps you, put a little candle in your purse today and remind yourself that there are places that are waiting for you to shine your light and offer your love, places that God has called you to go. Help Him any way that you can to overcome the darkness.

“Give freely to your neighbors and to the poor and needy in your land.” Deuteronomy 15:11 NCV

Let us pray: Lord, help us be willing to light a candle anywhere that seems dark. Bless the people around us with Your precious light. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

Go, Get ‘Em! April 3, 2023

“Destiny s not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It’s not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.” - William J. Bryan

When we look at successful people, we probably imagine that they are just luckier than we are, better at making connections or being the right place at the right time. Chances are, they aren’t luckier or more blessed or in any way slated for more favor, they probably are people who persevered. They probably didn’t wait for destiny to ride in on a white horse. They went seeking destiny instead.

It’s not easy for us to take a great leap of faith and try something we haven’t tried or move in a direction that feels foreign. When we have to get out of our comfort zones, we aren’t as sure of our steps.

God is! God still knows what the steps are that you have to take and He goes before you in your pursuits to help page the way for you. Only you can choose the moment when you’ll decide to act. Just be reassured that when you’re ready to go out there, you won’t go alone!

“A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul.” - Proverbs 13:19 NKJV

The Question of Who You Are March 27, 2023

“Let your only evaluation of worth derive from the awareness of God’s love for you. All other measures leave one in a state of delusion.” - Anonymous

Sometimes we look up to people we think have accomplished much more than we have. We imagine that they must be very special in God’s sight to have done so well. We look to them for inspiration and for leadership, or for ideas about how we might become more like them.

The problem is that when we look up to others, we lose two things. We lose our awareness of the gifts God has given to us, the things that make us unique and worthy in His eyes, and we lose that sense of knowing God has truly designed all that is good for us to accomplish as well. Taking note of what another woman does, or what she has of this world’s material goods, isn’t any kind of statement about your worth or your ability.

The important thing is to always know who you are, and whose you are. When you have that set in your mind, all things are possible for you.

“Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you.” - Romans 12:2 NCV

Let us pray: Lord, we admit that we’re often a bit envious of some of our friends. We imagine that they must have done something better than we have, or they must be smarter than we are to have accomplished so much. Please help us to focus on You and forgive us for those thoughts. Becoming a Woman of Worth March 20, 2023

“Be dogmatically true, obstinately holy, immovably honest, desperately kind, fixedly upright.” - Charles H. Spurgeon

What would it mean for you to see yourself as “desperately kind”? Would you find yourself opting for kindness in any and every situation? If someone was rude to you, you would be kind. If someone hurt your feelings, you would retaliate with kindness, if someone lied to you, you would remain fixedly upright. You would not budge from doing the right thing, the honest thing, the obstinately holy thing, no matter what!

What a beautiful picture and what a difficult one to uphold. Yes, we can do our best to be honest, but those little temptations might still slip in that allowed us to cheat on our diets or spend more money than we know is good for us. We might go to church, but we forget what we learned before we hit the parking lot. We might want to be kind, but turn our backs on someone who needs our help without even realizing we did. Yes, this is a difficult list of qualities and yet it is not impossible.

You’re becoming more of these things every day.

“A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.” - Proverbs 21:2 NIV

Let us pray: Lord, if we’re going to be stubborn, then let us be stubborn for You. Let us be obstinate in our efforts to become more holy, more honest and more kind. Don’t Rain on My Parade March 13, 2023

“If you spend your whole life waiting for the storm, you’ll never enjoy the sunshine.” - Horace

Some of us can only imagine the dark side of any opportunity. When good things happen, we choose to think that something not good is probably coming our way. When joy peeks through the window, we look to find the clouds that surely will turn the world upside down. After all, we’re just not worthy of the good things that others enjoy. We do our best to prepare for the worst and never get a chance to experience God’s best.

Why do we do that? Our God of goodness and steadfast love offers us a new chance every single day. We rise to possibilities beyond measure. We see His hand in places we never expected because He has gone before us to make sure all is safe and well for us. He is the light and He bids us to follow him wherever we go. We don’t have to sit in the darkness and wait for the thunderstorms to come rolling in.

Today, accept God’s goodness! Alert yourself to moments when you can see His hand at work, chasing away the clouds.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” - Proverbs 13:12 NLT

Doing What Works March 6, 2023

“Work with all your might, but never trust in your work. Pray with all your might for the blessing in God, but work at the same time with all diligence, with all patience, with all perseverance.” - George Müller

You probably know people who are defined by their work. They are known as your accountant or your waiter. They are your hair stylist or your dentist. Whatever their role, you probably know them best for what they do. They may work hard and they may be wonderful people, but chances are you don’t really know much more about them. You don’t know what makes life work for them.

It’s important to strive to be good at the work you do, but not to trust that the work is the only definition of you. At the same time, you must work diligently, even when you’re praying for God’s blessings, because He wants you to live fully and abundantly. He wants you to excel.

You can appreciate the people you know who take on various tasks around you. You can love the work you do, but you must rely solely on the grace of God to put it all together. God knows what works best for you.

“Make every effort to give yourself to God as the kind of person He will approve. Be a worker who is not ashamed and who uses the true teaching in the right way.” - 2 Timothy 2:15 NCV

Let us pray: Lord, bless the work that we do according to Your will and purpose for our lives. Help us to trust only in Your providence. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

The Blessings of Angels December 19, 2022

“An angel can illumine the thought and mind of a person by strengthening the power of vision, and by bringing within reach some truth which the angel himself contemplates.” - Thomas Aquinas

At Christmastime, we embrace the idea of angels. We thank them for sharing the light of our Savior’s birth and heralding His entry into the world with joy and praise. We love that they protected Mary and Joseph and helped them escape from evil kings. We are grateful for the role they played in giving guidance to the shepherds and wise men. We love Christmas angels.

The blessing of our lives today is that angels are still with us. They come to our aid, often unseen, protecting and strengthening us. They help us in ways that we may never be able to recount because they’ve done it as part of God’s master plan. It’s okay if you don’t have any personal experience with angels, but consider that they have a deep and abiding love for you.

It’s the season to see angels all around and to thank God for their ministry here on earth.

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” - Hebrews 13:2 NKJV

Let us pray: Lord, we know we are blessed to have the help of angels at all seasons and times and we thank You for the part they play in the human experience. A Loving Prayer December 12, 2022

“Open wide the windows of our spirits and fill us full of light; open wide the door of our hearts, that we may receive and entertain Thee with all our powers of adoration.” - Christina Rossetti

The closer we draw to Christmas and the beauty of the season, the more our hearts are filled with the desire to adore God. We imagine that beautiful manger scene of an innocent young woman, her committed and supportive partner, and the sweet Baby sent to earth by love. It’s the time of year when we truly open our hearts and our spirits and bask in the light.

As you reflect on the gifts of the season, think of what it means to simple offer love and praise to your Savior. Share your heart with Him out of love, more than out of your needs for provision or strength. Just let Go d know how much you love to be in His presence, to be filled with His spirit of joy and peace and grace. The light will flow through you, through your house and through every open door and window. Praise God and let His blessings flow through you today.

“Sing to the Lord a new song, because He has done miracles.” -Psalm 98:1 NCV

Let us pray: Lord, we bow down before You in gratitude for all You’ve done for us and the people we love. We praise You with my whole heart for allowing us to experience the light and peace of all that comes from Your Spirit. Please receive our love. The Angst of Waiting September 5, 2022

“If you spend your whole life waiting for the storm, you’ll never enjoy the sunshine.” - Horace

Stormy days come into all of our lives. Sometimes we’re prepared for them and we pass through them rather quickly. At other times we are surprised by them and have to rely on inner strength and faith to get past the threat they impose.

However, sometimes we don’t actually face a real storm; we just imagine that a storm is coming and so we get up every day wondering whether this will be the day the lightning strikes and the wind blows. We simply can’t trust that God has more for us than a bad storm.

What if you changed your view right now? If you imagined only good coming your way, you might find that storm clouds seldom gather anywhere near you. God wants everything to happen for your good because you mean so much to Him. He has prepared and planned for sunny days because He loves to see you radiate with happiness. Step away from your impending thoughts of gloom, and let the sun shine in your life.

“We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” - Romans 8:28 NLT

Let us pray: Lord, we know that we let our worries get out of hand and often anticipate things that never happen. Please help us to live more in the present and find joy in the moments we’re living today. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
