Paying Attention to Your Business July 17th, 2023

“We should have much more peace if we would not busy ourselves with the sayings and doings of others.” - Thomas a Kempis

Every now and then you get distracted. You aren’t distracted by your work load or your household chores this time, but you’re distracted by a bit of local gossip, some hearsay about a family member or an old friend. You don’t want to get caught up in it, but before you know it, you become part of the drama, part of the fuel that keeps gossip’s fires burning.

Though it’s never pleasant to be admonished to “mind your own business,” that fact is that it is good advice. If we keep focused on our own business, which usually has some necessary repairs needed anyway, we can change things for the better. When we focus on other people’s business, there is little good that can be accomplished.

Today, stay totally focused on you and the business at hand. You’ll be glad you did. After all, participating in gossip is never really a wise course of action.

“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put preserve lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you.” - Proverbs 4:23-25 NKJV

Let us pray: Lord, thank You for making us Your business. Thank You for reminding me where to put our focus and our priorities. We’ve got plenty to handle all on our own. Father God, hear our prayers of intentions from today, from our prayer wall and for any unmentioned prayers in our hearts.. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
